All Marlborough wineries are invited to attend a pre-harvest workshop to support winery waste management practices over harvest.

The session will cover:

• Learnings from V23 compliance monitoring

• A case study on revitalising waterways around the industrial area

• Workshop: How might wineries improve? How might Council support wineries?

• Operations managers, engineers, and cellar staff responsible for solid and/or liquid waste should attend. Senior management/owners responsible for resource consent conditions and/or meeting permitted activity requirements would also benefit from the session.

For those less familiar with a Blood, Sweat & Beers event, it is simply an old-school XC mountain biking relay event where teams of 2, 3 or 4 persons race 12 laps of vineyard base course.  There are prizes for the fastest overall and best dressed teams, with separate categories for fastest women’s and fastest junior teams (2-6 riders all under the age of 16yrs).  Beer and hotdogs are free for all race entrants as well as a range of awesome spot prizes.

Greg Dryden, Fruition Horticulture, will present the results for 2023 including trends and key performance features. He will also summarise the main factors impacting profitability of the survey group using quartile analysis to investigate the drivers of revenue, expenses and surplus for Marlborough vineyards.

This free session will run from 3.30pm for 45 minutes and have a Q&A component. It will be followed by MWG AGM which you are encouraged to stay for to learn more about your regional wine association and what areas are work on on your behalf.

After day three of judging at the 2023 Marlborough Wine Show, sponsored by QuayConnect, industry are invited to taste through the opened bottles hosted by the New Zealand Wine Centre. There is no fee for this tasting. All attending must be 18+ years of age.

Repost is leading the way in dealing with broken vineyard posts - a serious waste stream for the wine industry - and reducing the amount going to landfill by repurposing the posts for farm fencing.

Repost repurposes the broken posts by removing the nails and trimming to fence post length. These are sold to farmers at an affordable cost and are used to fence off waterways and significant natural areas.

Repost business blueprint is selling a 2nd life cycle product and being part of a circular economy with the Viticulture and Rural sector.

Marlborough contestants will undergo a mix of practical and theoretical questions. They go head-to-head in the Vin Olympics event, as well as give a speech at the awards dinner.   

The winner of the regional competition will then move on to compete in the National competition against other regions.

The competition is open to those under 30 involved with wine production. This includes cellar hands, cellar managers, those working in the laboratory, assistant winemakers, and winemakers. It aims to help ambitious and passionate young people become future leaders of the NZ wine industry. It is a fantastic opportunity for emerging young winemakers to grow, develop and advance their careers.

Each year Wine Marlborough recognises individuals who have made a significant and sustained contribution to the Marlborough wine industry by awarding them a Lifetime Achievement award. Up to two people can be recognised per year. The awards are made at our Marlborough Wine Show Celebration function, this year scheduled for 17 November 2023. Grape Days Marlborough looks at the region's 2023 season challenges, wise water use, dealing with trunk disease, reducing carbon emissions and making the numbers work on the vineyard.

The event includes morning tea, lunch and networking with wine and cheese to finish. Pre-purchased tickets are available until 16 July for $47.50. After this date, they will cost $60.
