Te Whare Ra Wines

Te Whare Ra is the oldest little winery & vineyard in Marlborough - first established in 1979.

Both the winery and vineyard are certified organic. Since 2003 it has been owned and operated by two winemakers - Anna & Jason Flowerday. She's an Aussie from South Australia and he's a kiwi from Marlborough. Both have wine in their veins literally & metaphorically, and after years of working for other people they made the leap to doing their own thing. The Flowerdays have spent the last 20 years bringing their old vines back to life by farming organically with a regenerative mindset. While most of their neighbours focused on world domination by size and volume the Flowerdays have been quietly building a reputation as thoughtful, organic winemakers whose wines are now globally recognised as amongst the best from Aotearoa.

Te Whare Rā was founded by Allen & Joyce Hogan who were amongst the first wineries established in the region. They were drawn here by the early promise shown by Marlborough for winegrowing and over 18 years gained a reputation for quality & a cult following for their wines. In 2003 that baton was picked up by the Flowerdays who loved the foundation that provided them with. They both came from multiple generations of winegrowers and saw huge potential in the property and it's old vines.

In their 20yrs of ownership the Flowerdays have breathed life back into Te Whare Rā and forged a reputation for their wines that is amongst the top producers in Aotearoa - with their range of wines recognised globally for their consistent excellence. They have championed organic & regenerative farming and have been flying the flag for high end wines from Marlborough since day one.

We are committed to showcasing the depth and diversity that this wonderful region is capable of producing. We grow and make 7 different varietals. Both our families have been growing wine for multiple generations and we hope that by farming the way we do we can hand on our land to the next generation in a much better state than what we found it. That drives every decision we make. Member of Organic Winegrowers of NZ Founding member of MANA Winegrowers.
