2024 Young Viticulturist Competition
Recognising that great wines begin in the vineyard, the Young Viticulturist of the Year competition celebrates the future of viticulture. This prestigious competition is open to those aged 30 years and younger and tests the wide range of skills required to be a successful vit. There are five regional competitions this year with the National Final being held on 28 August at Escarpment in Wairarapa.
The Marlborough competition will be held on 4 July 2024.

The Tonnellerie De Mercurey Marlborough Young Winemaker of the Year Competition 2024
The Young Winemaker of the Year competition is an opportunity for ambitious young people to become future leaders of the New Zealand wine industry. This exciting competition is open to those aged 30 years and younger and everyone working in wine production including laboratory, cellar hand and winemaking. There will be three regional finals in 2024. The winner from each will then go through to represent their region in the National Final on 27 August at Foley Wine’s The Runholder in Wairarapa. The winner will be announced at the Altogether Unique Celebration Dinner on 29 August.

All Marlborough wineries are invited to attend a pre-harvest workshop to support winery waste management practices over harvest.
The session will cover:
Learnings from V23 compliance monitoring
A case study on revitalising waterways around the industrial area
Workshop: How might wineries improve? How might Council support wineries?

Blood, Sweat & Beers
For those less familiar with a Blood, Sweat & Beers event, it is simply an old-school XC mountain biking relay event where teams of 2, 3 or 4 persons race 12 laps of vineyard base course. There are prizes for the fastest overall and best dressed teams, with separate categories for fastest women’s and fastest junior teams (2-6 riders all under the age of 16yrs). Beer and hotdogs are free for all race entrants as well as a range of awesome spot prizes.

Member session: MPI and NZ Winegrowers Vineyard Monitoring Report release
Greg Dryden, Fruition Horticulture, will present the results for 2023 including trends and key performance features. He will also summarise the main factors impacting profitability of the survey group using quartile analysis to investigate the drivers of revenue, expenses and surplus for Marlborough vineyards.
This free session will run from 3.30pm for 45 minutes and have a Q&A component. It will be followed by MWG AGM which you are encouraged to stay for to learn more about your regional wine association and what areas are work on on your behalf.

The Tonnellerie De Mercurey Marlborough Young Winemaker of the Year Competition 2023
Marlborough contestants will undergo a mix of practical and theoretical questions. They go head-to-head in the Vin Olympics event, as well as give a speech at the awards dinner.
The winner of the regional competition will then move on to compete in the National competition against other regions.

Each year Wine Marlborough recognises individuals who have made a significant and sustained contribution to the Marlborough wine industry by awarding them a Lifetime Achievement award. Grape Days Marlborough
