Winery Cellar Doors & Wine Tastings

New Zealand's largest and most famous wine region, is home to our world-renowned Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. With more than 30 cellar doors offering tastings, there are many ways to explore the region’s wine trail and winery restaurants. Marlborough Wine & Food Festival

Marlborough’s best day out with more than 40 local wineries, foodies and top Kiwi bands held in one of Marlborough’s most stunning vineyards. The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival celebrates Marlborough's famous wine accompanied by some of New Zealand's best Chef's and food producers.

Wine Tasting Tips

Marlborough produces over 25 varieties of wine with the most popular being Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling.

Many cellar doors offer exclusive wines only available to purchase in their tasting rooms and most will offer domestic and international shipping, making it easy to take a piece of Marlborough home with you!

While tasting, you are welcome to drink the wines, or quite commonly, use a spittoon to spit the wines in to.

Visitors will usually enjoy three–five cellar doors throughout the day, enjoying lunch at one of the stops.

Please ensure you enjoy responsibly. We encourage you to arrange a tour or driver.

By Air Arrive by air and get a birds-eye view of the stunning Marlborough landscape and sea of grapevines, the stunning mountains at the tip of the Southern Alps as well as the Marlborough Sounds. Two airlines fly direct to the region, Air New Zealand and Sounds Air.

By Road Once you're here, Marlborough is an ideal place to explore by road, with little traffic and lots of scenery. Much of Marlborough’s stunning landscape is accessible by vehicle, with brilliant scenic drives taking you to a range of towns, valleys, hills, mountains and coastlines across the province. If you're visiting from another country, we encourage you to learn more about driving in New Zealand at the New Zealand Transport Agency website.

By ferry or boat Cruise across the Cook Strait and through the Marlborough Sounds - one of the most picturesque ferry journeys in the world. You can travel between Wellington and Picton with Interislander or Bluebridge and the journey takes approximately three and a half hours.

By Bus Sit back, relax, and enjoy the views as you travel by bus to Marlborough. This is a great option for those without a car. You can get to Marlborough with InterCity.

By Bike There are some brilliant wine cycle tours available in Marlborough. If you're planning on cycling from Christchurch, check out the alternative cycle route, or via State Highway One here.

By Train Travelling between Christchurch and Picton the Coastal Pacific journeys breathtakingly close to the Pacific Ocean, where the roaring sea meets enormous bush-clad mountains. The Coastal Pacific Christchurch to Picton train runs daily each morning from late September to late April.
