The
Marlborough Wine Weekend showcased the very best of Marlborough in an
atmosphere of conviviality, fine wine and gourmet cuisine. 300 wine lovers were treated to an array of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Following registration and a picnic brunch in the
historic and exclusive Timara Lodge on Friday, guests were invited to attend the
first ever Marlborough Wine Weekend Master Class Series at local wineries. The
guests then broke up into groups of 30 and were transported to different
Marlborough wineries and treated to a winemaking/blending session with
Marlborough’s leading winemakers. The second master class involved a
comprehensive white wine and cheese pairing hosted by New Zealand’s leading
cheese and wine experts.
After the Master Class Series guests enjoyed the extensive gardens at Timara Lodge and joined the other guests at the
Twilight Garden Party. This event was hosted by Marlborough’s leading chefs
who prepared a delectable array of dishes to match our region’s
wines.
On Saturday, guests were taken on a journey
around the sub regions of Marlborough and given special access to beautiful
sites that are not open to the general public.
The guests then split into
two groups, the first were taken on the Marlborough Pinot Noir Experience and
the second were whisked away to the Awatere Valley for the Evolution of
Sauvignon Blanc. At lunchtime the groups came together for the Long Lunch
and again were treated to a stunning natural location while enjoying some of
Marlborough’s delicious local produce.
That night Timara Lodge hosted the Marlborough
Gourmet Feast in a fairy tale setting in the classical gardens of the lodge. An
internationally acclaimed chef - Des Harris from Clooney Restaurant in Auckland designed a delectable 5 course degustation
menu to match a selection of library wines from the cellars of Marlborough’s top
wineries.
On Sunday a short bus ride to
Havelock where the Marlborough Travel Odyssea Launch took guests
on a relaxing Marlborough Sounds Cruise.
