New Winner for Marlborough Cellar Door of the Year

Forrest Wines took out the title of the Wine Marlborough Cellar Door of the Year at the annual awards held yesterday.

Winner of Cellar Door Personality of the Year was Cellar Door Manager of Whitehaven Wines, Karen Marchant. “I love working for Whitehaven and it’s really a dream come true working in the wine industry”, Karen says. The Personality of the Year award saw 18 nominations, which were given through mystery shopping visits.

Second place for Cellar Door of the Year went to No. 1 Family Estate with Hans Herzog claiming third place.

Forrest Cellar Door representatives on the night Becky Mehlhopt and Kate McNenny gave credit to the strong team environment within the cellar door. “We have such amazing teamwork, we have a super team at Forrest and this is an attribute to our work.”

Competition organisers, Wine Marlborough described the competition as a way to celebrate and promote the brilliant cellar doors and cellar door hosts that ensure the Marlborough wine story is proudly shared with both visitors and locals.

With the support of NZWineHome, this years winning cellar door will send one of their staff on a three days educational trip to experience the best wine tourism offerings from another wine region in New Zealand. They will also have support from Wine Marlborough to promote the title and celebrate as a team.

Marlborough has over 30 cellar doors, including 22 offering small plates, platters or a la carte dining. The Marlborough Wine Trail Map can be viewed on the Wine Marlborough website.
