What We Do

Wine Marlborough Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Marlborough Winegrowers Association. Established in 1992, Wine Marlborough is effectively owned by the industry and is tasked with marketing and protecting Marlborough’s reputation as a premium wine growing region both domestically and internationally.

This is achieved through a variety of activities broadly categorised under the key pillars of Governance, Communication, Marketing and Advocacy.  Activities are wide and varied including; events, wine tourism, hosting of international visitors (media and wine buyers), education and information dissemination, media liaison and industry communication, seasonal labour, advocacy and emersion in the Marlborough community.

Wine Marlborough’s work towards the collective enhancement of the 151 wineries and 581 grape growers in Marlborough. Membership is automatic for all wineries and grape growers in the region.Wine Marlborough, as the regions wine grower association, has a close working relationship with New Zealand Winegrowers who also part fund the organisation from levies collected via the Commodity Levy’s Act 1990.

Marlborough has 22,956ha of vineyard area, and represented 76.9% of the total volume of grapes harvested in New Zealand in 2016 and is the main driver of the $1.57b export industry with New Zealand’s signature grape variety, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough is also the leading producer of Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay in New Zealand.

Marcus, when not at work is rather obsessed with Spotify, Brian FM, cricket, coffee, playing sport with his kids and watching them play sports. In terms of Marlborough wine, he’s drawn to a good glass of chardonnay and is very interested in sub regional vs. regional Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Georgie Leach

She might be from Sydney but don’t let that fool you. Georgie comes from a poultry farming family and the country music capital of Australia. Georgie has an affinity with wine and has backed that up with more than 10 years’ experience in marketing, PR and events within the wine industry. On her days off, you’ll find her cooking, drinking wine and spending time with friends and family. Although she doesn’t discriminate amongst grape varieties, she can’t go past a glass of sparkling wine.

Born & bred Marlburian and very much at home on the family farm. Harriet loves getting out and about re-exploring what Marlborough has to offer, whether it be by foot, car or boat. A lover of food and chocolate and exploring the many local wines, her favourite changes depending on the meal it's with.

Born and bred here - Jo is very passionate about Marlborough and loves showing off the regions wine, food and Sounds to her friends visiting the region. She enjoys all wines but is most partial to Marlborough Sparkling – especially Rosé.

Sophie has loved exploring Marlborough over the past 13 years. Whether sailing in the Sounds, tramping in the Richmond Range, skiing at Rainbow or mountain biking through Molesworth, she and her husband Mark, along with their two young children, think the region’s stunning natural diversity makes it one of the best spots in New Zealand. The wine industry at its heart seals the deal, ensuring that after every adventure there’s a lovely glass of wine or delicious vineyard lunch.
